BAFTAs 2013: Hugh Jackman says Jean Valjean was dream role

Report by Rob Gillett, Video by Lindsay Brown

Hugh Jackman says playing Jean Valjean in the big screen version of Les Miserables was a dream role.

The 44-year-old was speaking on the red carpet at the BAFTAs where he was nominated for the best actor prize.

He said: "It was certainly a role that I dreamt of playing a lot. I know there's a number of people who could play this role and I am so honestly grateful that I had a chance to do it."

After hosting the Oscars last year, Jackman said it was far better to be at an awards show as a nominee.

"I think everyone should just host one of these awards and then coming as a nominee is really a lot better," he said.

Hugh lost out on the best actor BAFTA to Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis.
