Stallone's Rocky - The Musical hits theatres

Report & Video by Mark Morris

The first stage adaptation of Rocky has premiered in Hamburg and Sylvester Stallone was joined on the red carpet by Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.

Rocky - Das Musical, as it is called in Germany, has been produced by Stallone and the boxing brothers.

Like the film, it tells the rags-to-riches story of Rocky Balboa, a talented but unsuccessful amateur boxer, realising his potential and winning the heart of a girl.

The $15 million dollar musical was originally penned in English but it was translated for German theatre after being given the final go-ahead in November 2011.

Rocky fans needn't worry about the stage version destroying the film's reputation though.

It features all the main characters from the original film, and includes songs like Gonna Fly Now and Eye of the Tiger.
