Lil Wayne believes the posthumous Aaliyah album that Drake is producing is "an awesome collaboration".

The controversial record has angered some fans and close friends of the late singer, who believe Missy Elliot and Timberland should have been involved in the project from the start.

However, Lil Wayne is positive about the future release, saying: "Everybody knows what Aaliyah did and done for music and culture, period. And it's always good to do that, not only for people like that, just for her fans, you know what I mean?"

He added: "Drake's a very thoughtful person. Everyone knows that. It's an awesome collaboration."

"Her music is still awesome. It's still better than a lot of music out right now."

It is reported that Missy and Timberland will now be involved with the album in some way.
