Russell Crowe and a friend were saved by the Coast Guard at the weekend after being forced to beach their kayaks in Huntington Bay.
The pair had set off from Cold Spring Harbour, Long Island, New York, several miles from the bay, on Saturday.
The Academy Award-winning actor flagged down a Coast Guard patrol at around 10pm.
After the rescue, Russell tweeted: "Kayak; Cold Spring/Huntington Harbour, thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way...4hrs 30 mins, 7m(11.2km)"
Neither the New Zealand-born Crowe, 48, nor his companion were injured, the Coast Guard said.
