Will Ferrell gets political

Report by Geraldine Cooper

He made us all laugh as news presenter Ron Burgundy in Anchorman, now Will Ferrell is taking on the world of politics in his new film The Campaign.

In it, he stars as Cam Brady, a bumbling Congressman who has never had an opponent until Marty Huggins, played by Zach Galifinakis, decides to give him a run for his money.

The two actors attended a screening of their film in Washington on Tuesday and bantered about politics.

Ferrell believes it will resonate with audiences in an election year.

"Well, I mean hopefully the movie is kind of a nice departure from the continual bombardment of this campaign," he said.

"And the people kind of have a laugh and learn a little bit about how messed up our political system is."

It is not the first time Ferrell has acted in a political role, he played President George W. Bush on the hit US show Saturday Night Live.

The Campaign is released in the UK on September 28.
