Steven Tyler quits American Idol as a judge

Report by Max Akhtar

American Idol judge Steven Tyler has decided to leave the show. The rock legend wants to focus on making music with his band Aerosmith.

He says: "I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I've got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band."

Idol is now in its twelfth series and ratings have dipped since Simon Cowell's shock exit.

Jennifer Lopez has also hinted that she may leave too.

Rumoured replacements include Jerry Lewis, Charlie Sheen and Adam Lambert.

The show’s producer Nigel Lythgoe is not confirming anyone right now, saying: "Everyone is speculating, this always happens, Adam Lambert is not a new judge on the show, that must of come from his fans, you will just have to wait and see."
