It has been confirmed Nick Grimshaw will replace Chris Moyles as host of the Radio 1 breakfast show.
Moyles announced he was leaving the programme despite being contracted to the station until 2014.
"We're off," he told listeners on Wednesday morning.
"I wanted to let you know. A couple more months of us, then it's someone else's turn. Thank you for listening."
Chris Moyles took over from Sara Cox in 2004 and is the station's longest-running breakfast presenter.
Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper thanked the DJ, saying: "Quite simply he's been the most successful breakfast show host in Radio 1 history."
Late show presenter Nick Grimshaw will replace him.
"I'm super-excited to be hosting the iconic Radio 1 Breakfast Show, it's been a dream of mine since the age of 11 and to be honest it hasn't really sunk in yet," Grimmy said.
The news comes after the BBC's governing body ruled in June that Radio 1 still needed to attract more listeners under 30 years old.
