To celebrate Tom Cruise's 50th birthday, a trailer for his new film Jack Reacher has been released.

The film is based on best selling novels by Lee Child and Tom stars as an ex-military investigator caught up in the case of a sniper accused of killing five people.

Unfortunately the trailer has left many fans dissapointed and this tops off a bad week for Tom who has had to deal with a week of critical press documenting his marriage break-up to Katie Holmes.

Paramount Pictures released a statement alongside the trailer which said: "Tom is a huge movie star for the right reason. He's a very talented actor whose movies have entertained millions of fans."

Jack Reacher opens in cinemas from December 21.
