Katie Holmes has filed for divorce from Tom Cruise following five years of marriage.

According to Katie's lawyers: "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Meanwhile, a lawyer for Cruise said: "Katie has filed for divorce,

"Tom is very sad about it and is concentrating on the kids."

The pair began dating in April 2005, making their first public appearance together in Rome. A month later, Cruise declared his love for Holmes on The Oprah Winfrey Show, famously jumping up and down on Winfrey's couch.

On November 18, 2006, they married at a castle in Bracciano, Italy.
