Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan says the theme of alienation is behind the band's latest album Oceania.
Corgan said: "If I had to say, I'd say the two themes in the record that stick out most are a sense of alienation both interpersonally and culturally.
"Internally it's like typical things, love relationship, does my lover understand me? Those types of things but I also think we're going through a different alienation in the culture.
"We rely less on our human relationships and rely more on the digital version and I'm not just talking about social media it's the way we get our news and it's the way we communicate with the world."
Oceania is the band's ninth studio album and hit record shops on Tuesday 19 June.
