Comic world celebrates first gay superhero wedding

Report by Geraldine Cooper

Comic book fans are celebrating the first same-sex wedding ever to take place in the superhero world.

Northstar and Kyle, who have been a couple since 2009, tie the knot in issue number 51 of Astonishing X-Men.

New York comic book store Midtown Comics celebrated their union by hosting its first same-sex wedding ceremony.

Scott Everheart and Jason Welker, who are from Ohio, won a nationwide competition to find the perfect couple who wished to tie the knot in a wedding of superhero proportions.

Welker said: "One of our first dates was him taking me to a comic book store, so that's why this also seemed kind of perfect, because that was right at the start of our relationship. So this is kind of a nice full circle, and now I'm a total comic dork."

Such is the couple's dedication to the comic book world, they even celebrated with an Astonishing X-Men wedding cake.
