After weeks of speculation Johnny Depp has confirmed he has split from his girlfriend of 14 years Vanessa Paradis.

Rumours emerged in May that the couple had called it quits, although 49-year-old Depp later slammed the reports as untrue.

Now the Pirates of the Caribbean star has announced that he and the French actress have decided to break-up.

A statement released by Depp's representative to Entertainment Tonight reads: "[They] have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children."

Johnny and Vanessa, who is 39, began seeing each other in 1998, but never married.

They have two children together, 13-year-old Lily-Rose, and 10-year-old Jack.
