Comedian and actor Russell Brand had to play second fiddle to the Dalai Lama on Saturday night.

The Tibetan leader got the biggest laughs of the evening after he pulled on Brand's facial hair as the pair were being photographed.

He unexpectedly grabbed the beard of Rock of Ages star Russell, who, in an awkward position, joked to the audience: "Not really a lot I can do in a situation like this. Just got to go with it."

The Dalai Lama is on a short British tour to share his beliefs in non-violence and compassion with young people.

He will travel to London, Edinburgh, Dundee, and Inverness, as well as meeting parliamentarians at Westminster and Holyrood.
