A learner driver provided operators at West Midlands Police with one of the more bizarre emergency calls they have ever received, after dialling 999 to complain that his driving instructor had arrived late for his lesson.
The learner said: "The instructor who's supposed to be teaching me. She came late and now she's asking me to get out of the car."
The call handler eventually managed to talk the man into getting out of the instructors car, and warned him that he should not be calling 999 to complain about his driving lessons.
Bogus calls to 999 can take a couple of minutes to resolve as operators try to verify the situation, which is valuable time if someone with a genuine emergency is trying to get through.
