A group of Japanese men have been declaring their love very publicly as part of the country's annual Love Your Wife Day.

The husbands took to a stage in a car park in Tokyo and shouted declarations of love to their wives.

Among the messages delivered at the top of their voices were "I will always love you", "there is no substitute for you to me" and "I can fly because you're with me".

The nervous embarrassment seemed to pay off for most of the men, with one wife saying: "He's very fabulous and manly today. It just reminded me how macho he used to be. My heart pounded."

Organisers of the Love Your Wife Day event say in a traditionally modest society it is often difficult for men to express their love for their wives.
