Crazy soapbox race in Hong Kong

Report by Rob Gillett

Thousands of people turned out to cheer on 42 home-made vehicles in the first ever Red Bull Soapbox race in Hong Kong.

The teams were judged on creativity, showmanship and speed.

Food seemed to be a recurring theme among the competitors with the 'Hot Pot' bunch dressed as shrimp, bacon and squid, a giant dim sum car and a butcher all taking part.

The winners were Hong Kong based Outsign Lab who built a Mexican-inspired vehicle in the shape of a giant skull.

They scored 121 points out of a possible 150 from the judges as they took on the 372-metre course in Shatin in Hong Kong's New Territories.

Timothy Wong from the Outsign Lab team said: "Building this thing was definitely hard work, but it all pays off for this event."
