David Blaine begins 'Electrified' stunt

Report by Sam Datta-Paulin

David Blaine has begun his latest stunt, Electrified, which will see a million volts pass through the magician for 72 hours.

A huge keyboard passes the charge through Blaine in time to music, as the magician spends three days and nights in New York being electrocuted whilst standing on a 17ft podium in a chainmail suit as part of the light and sound spectacular.

Whilst the suit acts as a so-called "Faraday cage", passing the current safely around Blaine, there is some real danger.

David is fed a stream of clean air to avoid inhaling harmful ozone caused by the ionized air, and is wearing an eyemask to filter out harmful UV radiation from the arcing lightning.
