Spain had a smiling orange in 1982, France had a rooster in '98 and now Brazil have chosen an endangered armadillo as the mascot for the 2014 World Cup.
FIFA say the mascot represents the three-banded armadillo, an endangered species native to Brazil.
While nature's version is a modest light brown in colour, the new mascot is yellow with green eyes and a blue shell to match the colours of the Brazilian flag.
The mascot doesn't have a name yet, FIFA say that will be chosen in a public vote.
