Hundreds of tango dancers have gathered to show off their fancy footwork in the Buenos Aires World Tango Championships.

Couples are competing in the qualifying rounds of the Salon and Stage tango competition.

Local residents and tourists turned up to watch the show, with all events being free to the public.

The Salon style tango is characterised by slow and smoothly executed moves.

While the Stage tango is, quite literally, tango performed on the stage.

The Salon style champions will be crowned on August 27 and Stage champions will be presented on August 28 to close the festival.
