Pensioners try to ride all 700 bus routes in London

Report by Sam Datta-Paulin

Three retirees have set out on a mission to ride every one of London's bus routes from start to finish.

Their journeys usually take them just a couple of miles from where they began - although it can take several hours to get there.

Jo Hunt, alongside her friends Mary and Linda, are using the "freedom" bus passes they picked up at 65 to full advantage - riding over 700 routes and some 8000 stops.

The group have passed through almost every neighbourhood in London, from the most glamorous to the most downtrodden; a concerned bus driver once apparently begging them not to stay on the route for their own safety.

Sitting on a hard plastic seat whilst getting knocked and bumped about, as well as suffering the worst of London's traffic, may not sound like much of a holiday.

For these ladies, though, it is a chance to create a unique map of the city detailing far-flung and low-key neighbourhoods even most of the city's residents will never have heard of.
