The world's biggest falafel

Report by Genelle Aldred

The biggest falafel in the world has been made in Jordan, it's in the Guinness World Records and weighs 74.75kg.

It took 80kg of chickpeas, 5kg of onions, 2kg of fresh parsley and coriander, 1.2kg of garlic, and the falafel was deep fried in 350 litres of vegetable oil.

It was officially announced as the largest falafel by Annabel Lawady, a official from Guinness World Records, who was present as the falafel was cooked.

Chef Mohammad Hudeib said: "The idea came two months ago. We started having trials and establishing records, each time we succeeded in a record we improved upon it, until we settled on 74 kg."

The previous record was 23.95kg, it was set at the Santa Clarita Valley Jewish Food and Cultural Festival in California.
