Women's beach volleyball pops up in London

Report by Geraldine Cooper

Commuters have been treated to pop-up beach volleyball matches at some of London's most famous landmarks.

The spontaneous games, held at a series of world-famous sites around the capital, have drawn large crowds of admiring fans.

The team of bikini-clad players travelled around the city in an open-top double decker bus, before stopping off at high-profile locations like Westminster Bridge.

Beach volleyball has, perhaps unsurprisingly, been one of the more popular sports featured at London 2012.

One fan caught up in the excitement of an unofficial pop-up match said he believed it was the "hottest ticket in town" at the Olympics.

Another commented on the sport's attraction for spectators: "Beach volleyball is a very noble sport and a very noble profession with some top athletes in it and they've worked very hard...

"...No, it's the girls, it's the girls!"
