North Korean soldiers dance to celebrate Kim's promotion

Report by Sam Datta-Paulin

Following weeks of military reorganisation, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been declared the new Marshal of the country's forces.

National celebrations have been held to mark the occasion, with thousands of troops taking to the streets for a curiously North Korean military tradition - mass organised dances.

Thousands of troops took to the squares of Pyongyang to express their delight at the reshuffle.

The moves were about as spontaneous as the celebrations, perfectly choreographed with most steps being symbolic in their own right in a manner akin to line dancing.

Military dances are held to mark auspicious days in North Korea, often involving tens of thousands of troops.
